FAQs

How do I get on to a training programme?

If you are unemployed, ask your Personal Adviser at the jobcentre to refer you on to a course.

The Skills Plus Programme runs at both the Devizes and Salisbury training centres.
Gateway to work runs alternately between the Salisbury and Trowbridge training centres.

Our Advisory programmes (Right Directions, NDDP, Stepping Out, Young Persons) are county-wide, with advisors for each region.  You can contact NWT directly for these programmes.

Use our freephone number 0808 178 8765

What is a Basic Skills Assessment?

Before you are referred on to a programme by your JCP Adviser, you will be invited to take an Initial Assessment of your Literacy and Numeracy skills.  This involves two 20 minute test papers; with your results at the end of the session.  This provides a snapshot of your skills now, and highlights any training requirements.

You will not need to bring anything with you.

How long are the programmes?

The Skills Plus Programme is 26 weeks (6 months).  You will attend 30 hours a week, or 16 hours if you are a Lone Parent.

The Gateway to Work course is for two weeks.

The Advisory programmes are for six months, or until you achieve your employment goals.  NDDP offers ongoing support to Disabled People.

Will I receive any extra benefit?

On the Skills Plus Programme you will receive an expense allowance (approximately £15 a week) from the Jobcentre, plus an extra £10 a week if you have a Basic Skills need.

Are my expenses refunded?

On the Gateway to Work course your traveling expenses will be refunded.  Lunch is also provided.

On the Skills Plus Programme you will be expected to pay the first £4 of your weekly travel expenses.  The remainder will be refunded at the end of the week.

Unfortunately for Advisory sessions we are unable to refund traveling expenses.
