Gateway to Work - Good News Stories

Babak – Warminster

Since moving to England Babak had not worked. He had attended the Basic Employability course to improve his English and had undertaken a short work placement. When Babak was referred to the Gateway to Work course his English was good he just needed the confidence and motivation to sell himself to an employer. After the course he secured employment with Starline Taxis as a Driver.

Samantha – Salisbury

Sam attended the Gateway to work course which helped to improve her confidence and job seeking skills. During the course we arranged for Sam to visit James Hayes recruitment day and followed this up with her letter, CV, application form and numerous phone calls. As a result Sam secured a permanent position with them as a Customer Service Advisor/ Administrator.

Lorraine – Salisbury

Lorraine was very timid when she started the course and was helped greatly with the confidence she gained while on the course. During the course Lorraine sent out lots of speculative letters to local companies with her CV, with the skills she had gained on the course. She received a positive response from a solicitors in Andover and after a successful interview was offered a permanent position.

Carl – Salisbury

During the Gateway to Work course, Carl gained job search and interview techniques and increased confidence. Carl had always wanted to work with cars, but didn’t have any work based experience. We approached Quick Fit for a work taster placement and after speaking to the manager discovered they had a vacancy. Carl created an excellent letter, CV and application form and took them with him to the interview we arranged for him. As a result he secured a permanent job.

Paul – Devizes

Paul had previously had personal problems and was finding it difficult to motivate himself to find work. He had been self employed, selling imported goods on a market stall at festivals. The Gateway to work course gave Paul the confidence and motivation to apply for jobs. He really wanted to work outdoors and one of the other participants suggested he try the canal trust. We secured a one day work placement for Paul with the Canal Trust which he thoroughly enjoyed. He proved himself and the Manager there was very impressed and as a result offered him a permanent job.

Jessica – Warminster

Jessica was given the opportunity to attend the Gateway to work course, during which time she gained confidence and put thought to her future and used the opportunity to research college courses. She is currently studying full time at Salisbury College.

K

K was long-term unemployed and very de-motivated when she first arrived on the Gateway course. She had been rejected so many times in the past that she had lost almost all of her confidence at interviews and when applying for jobs. During the course, we helped K write her CV and Speculative Letters which she then posted to potential employers (she sent 30 letters and CVs!). Two weeks after the course, K was successfully interviewed for a senior administrative position. Whilst in this job, she received offers of employment for three other jobs that she had applied for, leaving her a choice of four different options. K has been happily employed ever since and is gaining valuable experience and qualifications in the field of her choice.

M

Lacking in confidence, M felt that he was failing at all of the interviews that he was attending. On the Gateway course, M worked on producing a CV as well as working on his interview skills and confidence. Shortly after the end of the course, M successfully applied for a position working in a security firm and has since been fully trained and is working as a retail security guard in Salisbury.

N

When N first attended the Gateway to Work course, he was extremely de-motivated, lacked confidence, motivation and direction. During the course, we worked on these issues and N soon started to come out of his shell which resulted in him helping several of the other Gateway clients with their CVs etc. Having never considered training as a career, N surprised himself at just how helpful he could be to those who don’t have his years of experience in management, legal proceedings etc. N now helps out as a training assistant on the BET & FTET courses at Salisbury.

D

D had been unemployed for quite some time when he was first referred to the Gateway course. Having gained a serious criminal record, D felt that this was preventing him from getting employment in the sales environment which was his chosen career. After working on his confidence, CV, and motivation skills, D felt far more able to apply for vacancies that he felt were suitable, and developed a can-do attitude which resulted in him sending out lots of spec letters and CVs within the two weeks of the course. Within two weeks of leaving the course, D was employed at Mortgages4U as a telesales executive and has been working there since.
