Free Training
GOVERNMENT funding has been secured by North Wessex Training to work with Wiltshire employers and their younger workforce to encourage and promote training.
Companies with employees between ages 16 to 18 that work a minimum of 16 hours a week and who employ less than 250 people are eligible for free advice on appropriate training options.
Dana Martin, of North Wessex Training, which is based in Devizes, said: “By helping young employees to gain recognized qualifications and equip them with the skills they need enables them to work more effectively and confidently and realise their potential within the company.”

Reading and writing skills climb up the agenda
Basic skills jumped to the top of the learning agenda in the autumn, when the BBC launched an ambitious three year campaign to encourage more people to improve their reading and writing skills.
It is estimated that over seven million adults in the UK have difficulties with reading and writing. Seeking help to improve these skills can be difficult, so OCR recently revised its Entry Level Adult Literacy and Numeracy certificates to make the assessment of these qualifications more flexible and meaningful for adults learners.
Ian Crees, OCR’s Senior Manager for Vocational Assessment Vocational Assessment says: “Literacy and Numeracy skills are an essential part of everyday living and can enhance job opportunities and quality of life. We recognise that for those who are looking to improve their skills, it can be a sensitive issue.”
OCR’s Basic Skills qualifications are available from Entry Level to Level 2 and provide national accreditation for literacy and numeracy skills. For many people these qualifications are a stepping stone to further study such as GCSEs, Key Skills or NVQs.
